Lt. Colonel Peter B. Cavendish

He joined the Army in 1943 straight from school at Winchester, did a university short course at New College, Oxford, and was commissioned on 1 July 1945, initially in the ‘Royals’. He transferred to the 3rd Hussars the following year when the latter took over the role of airborne divisional reconnaissance.

Unfortunately I have found it difficult to find more information regarding the Guidon of the 20th Hussars, that may soon be corrected now I have found a really good book about the regiment, I now just need time.

14th/20th KING’S HUSSARS 1939 – 1945

In February 1941 the Regiment provided the nucleus around which were formed the 26th Hussars. This nucleus consisted of the Commanding Officer (Major J. B. Norton), eight officers and 102 N.C.Os. and tradesmen; the deficit being made good by the arrival of 200 men of absolutely first-class material from England just before our mobilisation.
