14th Hussars leaving Maitland Camp

The 14th (King's) Hussars took part in all the battles leading up to the Relief of Ladysmith (2nd November 1899 – 27th February 1900). The 14th (King's) Hussars were part of General Sir Redvers Buller's army that forced Louis Botha's Boers to lift their siege of the town. This photograph shows the 14th Hussars leaving … Continue reading 14th Hussars leaving Maitland Camp

Drum Horse – 14th (King’s) Hussars

Mick, the fine Irish piebald animal which marches at the head of the 14th (King's) Hussars, is typical of the handsome creatures that are chosen for the proud position of Regimental Drum Horses. It will be noticed that upon the richly embroidered drum-banners are displayed, according to custom, and inscribed on leaves of laurel, the … Continue reading Drum Horse – 14th (King’s) Hussars

Letterhead of the 20th (xHx) Hussars

I think it was two weeks ago that I came across the letterhead for the 14th (King's) Hussars. I then had to go and look for that of the 20th (xHx) Hussars, I found it in about 3 days again on eBay.

Uniform – 20th (xHx) Hussars

This is a uniform of an Officer in the 20th (xHx) Hussars. The 20th (xHx) Hussars was the only regiment to wear the Primrose Yellow plume to the Busby, the Busby bag is Crimson as is the central silk train on the Regimental Crossbelt. In the aftermath of the Indian Mutiny (1857 - 1859), the … Continue reading Uniform – 20th (xHx) Hussars

xHx Poem
